Lan Shui (Music Director, 1997-2019) is renowned for his abilities as an orchestral builder and for his passion in commissioning, premiering and recording new works by leading Asian composers. He is the recipient of several international awards, as well as Singapore’s Cultural Medallion – our highest accolade in the arts, and the Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Star, or BBM).

Choo Hoey is the Singapore Symphony Orchestra's founding Music Director, from 1979 to 1996. His pioneering work building the orchestra from its modest beginnings has earned him the Cultural Medallion (1979) and the Public Service Star (1982).
